Ely Centre welcomes establishment of Family Memorial Group
The Chairman of the Ely Centre, Mr Jim Dixon has welcomed the establishment of the Enniskillen Memorial Remembrance Group, comprising of members of the families who lost relatives in the 1987 atrocity, who will now assume ownership of the memorial, its ongoing management and maintenance.
Mr Dixon said “The Ely Centre had been privileged to have been entrusted by the families, under the direction of himself and fellow director Mr James Mullan, to facilitate a process resulting in the memorial stone being designed, commissioned and dedicated, and to secure full planning permission until 2024”
Mr Dixon continued
“We believe the move towards family ownership of the memorial is a very positive and natural development and one we have discussed for a number of years. The aims of the new Family group are ones we wholeheartedly endorse and support. We have facilitated a smooth transition from the Ely Centre to the Remembrance Group and we will continue to co-operate and support the families.
On behalf of the Ely Centre I would like to thank the families for this privileged opportunity, I would like to acknowledge the efforts and commitment of the Very Rev Dean Kenneth Hall and Monsignor Peter O’Reilly for their support throughout. Finally we extend our sincerest appreciation to all who have donated thus far to the memorial fund.”.
In recent days a transfer agreement of the Memorial and a cheque for £12000 have been issued from the Ely Centre to the Family Memorial Group Chairperson
In conclusion Mr Dixon said “we and everyone at the Ely Centre wish the Family Group every success and blessing for the future, . The Memorial and its future management now rightly resides with the Enniskillen Memorial Remembrance Group and will serve as a fitting tribute to those 12 innocent civilians so cruelly murdered on Remembrance Sunday in 1987.
