The Ely Centre : We Will Remember Them:
On Friday 6th November, The Ely Centre held Services to Remember the Victims of The 1987 Enniskillen Poppy Day Bomb and Remember All members of HM Forces / Security Services and Civilians murdered throughout Co Fermanagh and Co Tyrone during the Troubles.
Representatives of the Board of Directors and staffing team of the Ely Centre took part in a short Act of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in Enniskillen.
Representatives from the Board and Staffing team stood silently as a wreath was laid to those murdered and injured as a result of the 1987 Remembrance Day IRA bomb. The Ely Centre chairperson Mr Jim Dixon, one of the most seriously injured survivors laid a wreath on behalf of the Ely Centre accompanied by his wife Anna, who was present with Mr Dixon on that fateful day 33 years ago and laid a floral arrangement.
Following this brief, yet emotional and respectful event, the team took the short walk to the Ely Centre to lay a wreath to all those murdered as a result of the Troubles in Co Fermanagh and Co Tyrone whose names are displayed on our Roll of Honours, pictured either side of our Poppy Tree made by our Art and Crafts Ladies Group to remember the Victims of the Poppy Day Bomb.
We extend our appreciation to our most recently appointed Director Mr Roy Crawford for his photography at both events.
Mr Dixon stated” “ The Ely Centre has and shall continue to remember the Victims of the Enniskillen Bomb, This event has impacted and shaped so many of our lives for the last 33 years and im sure it will continue to do so . However our suffering is not alone and has been sadly shared throughout this country by so many homes and today we remember all the victims of the Troubles whose families still carry that loss. Remembrance Day is a hugely significant day for us all the Ely Centre and it is very sad we are not able to mark it in the way we usually do, but this does not prevent us from remembering; we will always still reflect and remember our loved ones and friends
The Ely Centre are extremely proud of our Armed Forces and Security Services past and present and we honour all those at this time will and are forever grateful for their continued service and the sacrifice made by so many.
