Ely Centre welcome Veterans Commissioner Mr Danny Kinahan and Mrs Deborah Erskine MLA to Enniskillen Offices to meet with Members from the Veterans Modelling Project.
On Wednesday 5th January, Mr Danny Kinahan Veterans Commissioner for Northern Ireland and Mrs Deborah Erskine MLA visited the Ely Centre Enniskillen Offices to meet with members from Fermanagh Veterans Modelling Group to learn more of the prevalent issues facing Veterans being supported by the group and the wider Ely Centre services.
This pioneering and innovative project was created as a safe place for Veterans with a love for Model Making to join together and learn more about scale military modelling and build model kits. Over time this has progressed to scratch building, figure painting, terrain making, dioramas and anything else to do with model making in all scales from historical to modern day and beyond under the leadership of highly experienced modellers.
This group of Veterans has been meeting weekly for over 2 years in the Ely Centre and during the ongoing pandemic has been delivering weekly online workshops under the tutelage of Mr Gary Hicks and other contributors to 100s of Veterans from across the UK and further afield.
Speaking after the event, Mr Gary Hicks, stated “On behalf of the modelling group I would like to extend our sincerest thanks to Veterans Commissioner Mr Danny Kinahan and Mrs Deborah Erskine for taking time out of their busy schedules and coming down and meeting with us today. This has provided us a platform to express the concerns and issues which we believe are being experienced by the many veterans we support through this project. We trust that both Mr Kinahan and Mrs Erskine found this visit extremely informative and we look forward to welcoming them both back again in the near future.
